A tuned engine made possible by a manufacturer-affiliated specialist. This Skyline was the only automatic car in the test, and it was also the only one with engine work. The S1 engine is set up for enjoyable street and winding-road driving. Its output is a modest 300 PS, but it has more capability than the number suggests. Press the accelerator and it pulls smoothly to redline, while its delightful exhaust note keeps tempting you to put your foot down. The suspension is tuned firmly toward street use. It may feel a little short of support when pushed very hard, but it is exceptionally well balanced on public roads. Given the car’s character, I think this setup is exactly right.

A satisfying feel from the S1 tune
This rear wing was also developed through collaboration with Gran Turismo. Its understated design helps improve traction.

The aero kit, developed in collaboration with Gran Turismo 2, greatly improves high-speed stability and traction. The test car’s muffler had the best sound of the group.
A dedicated combination meter marked to 280 km/h (with a miles scale for some reason) is installed. Its silver dial is highly legible.
The VQ35DE has upgraded cams, valve springs, ECU, and other components. It revs cleanly at high rpm and is set up for enjoyable driving on winding roads. It is a finish only a manufacturer-affiliated tuner could achieve.
Forged 18-inch one-piece wheels are paired with Potenza S03 tires: 245/35 front and 275/35 rear. Braking is handled by large Brembo calipers.
Verdict
A GT car that makes you keep pressing the accelerator. At first I thought it was a very large car, but once moving I forgot its size and kept putting my foot down. The sound as it revs is fantastic…
…really great.
