The rear pillar cannot be removed without taking apart the trim and other components. In this case, use the transparent template film called an application sheet to trace the shape as accurately as possible, then cut the carbon sheet to match it. After applying it closely, trim the excess with a utility knife. Cut carefully so the edges line up perfectly; it makes a big difference to the finish!

Clean the part before applying the sheet

Use a hair dryer to restore adhesion

13.

Oil and dirt on the part can cause peeling. Cleaning it with a parts cleaner removes the oil thoroughly.

12.

To wrap the excess around, use hot air from a hair dryer to stretch the sheet as you fold it over. The moisture evaporates at the same time, helping it stick.

Trim off the excess sheet

19.

Spray soapy water with a mister to reduce adhesion between the sheet and the part. You can adjust the position if it shifts, and the water evaporates without affecting the finish.

20.

Fine adjustments are easy and effortless!

23.

After folding the sheet over, trim the areas where it overlaps in both directions. If the overlapped section is too thick, the fit will suffer.

24.

Solve problems like a puzzle

28.

Even if the sheet shifts, you can reposition it with just your thumb. Even I, a self-proclaimed amateur, was able to make fine adjustments!

29.

Apply the sheet while removing air

39.

When I tried to reinstall the finished pillar, it would not fit because the sheet made it too thick. This section slips into the standard cover, so trim the sheet here!

40.

Starting at the center of the pillar, use a squeegee to push the air outward. Press the wrapped section firmly with your fingers as you fold it over; it will gradually conform to the curve.

This is the spot…

41.

Key tip! You can adjust the tackiness by changing the detergent-to-water ratio. The amount of detergent mixed in and the amount of water sprayed both affect it. More detergent makes the work easier, but it takes longer for adhesion to return. Use about 1–2 spoonfuls for a full spray bottle of water.

Use the application sheet (template film) mentioned in the instructions. Since you cannot wrap the sheet around the back as you can on the front pillar, trace the template accurately!

Cut the template to the required size. For an accurate pattern, you may need to apply and trim it as you work. For efficiency, it is best to make the template at the size you need!

27.

Even with a template, you still need to remove air! The basic principle is to trace with the carbon sheet imagined in its applied position. Carefully squeegee out the air to improve the final result.

Trim off the excess

The only way to handle areas that cannot be wrapped is to trim them with a utility knife. Practice by cutting the template film beforehand so you get a feel for it.

The template sheet is made of a stretchable material so it can follow curved surfaces. When peeling it away, take care not to stretch the sheet!
