- Presented by Drift Tengoku
- All-Japan Student Drift Championship
- “In the tandem run, I intended to stay as close as possible. That was my strategy. When he spun in front of me I was startled, but I knew I'd lose if he pulled away.” (Iwai.) “He was far too close! Even flat out on the main straight, I couldn't shake him! While thinking that, I mistimed my entry. It was my first tandem battle and my mind went completely blank. I really felt the difference in skill.” (Moriya.) [Several words and speaker-name fragments damaged by OCR; source review pending.]

- EXCITING PERORT
- Iwai’s pressure forces Moriya into a spin! “The first free-practice run was when I felt the most pressure.”
- A complete victory!
- [Unclear: badly damaged headline fragment.]
- “Since appearing in the magazine, people have talked to me and noticed me in all kinds of places. So if I spun, I'd worry they'd think I was useless, and that gets me down,” says Iwai. [Opening fragment and several words damaged by OCR.]
- The pressure…
- Pressu… [heading fragment]
- …Iwai said he felt pressure… [damaged fragment]
- …I felt it.
- Victory through a clear difference in skill!
- “When I led, I went flat out after exiting the final corner. Otherwise I thought somebody might complain. Everyone says, ‘No way!’ when I tell them the engine is stock, but it really is. I wouldn't lie about that!” (Iwai.) “He's incredibly fast. When he pulled away on the straight, I thought, ‘This is bad—how can that be?’ I led determined to pull away from him myself, but when I looked in the mirror after Turn 2, I knew I'd lost.” (Nakanishi.) [Several OCR words are damaged; source review pending.]
- [Unclear: interleaved sentence fragment.]
- Inside the winning machine: its weapons are a 4A-G and a lightweight body! Even a KP on 13-inch wheels can still win!

- TRD. [Logo OCR partly unclear.]
- Iwai kept his foot down and finished the first run with a substantial gap. Next it was his turn to follow. Nakanishi also drove without mistakes, but Iwai managed to get completely alongside on the inside at the exit of Turn 2. The winner was obvious to everyone. [Some OCR wording is damaged; source review pending.]
- AE101 4A-G engine swap (overhauled); stainless exhaust manifold for AE86; 15-row oil cooler.
- IWAI
- Starlet (KP61) specifications — engine & drivetrain
- HCR32 factory fuel pump / CE100 factory muffler
- Five valves, without an airflow meter
- …razor-sharp response!
- For an airflow-meter-less setup focused on response, he uses an AE… ECU. The engine internals are stock, but it was overhauled during the swap and runs exceptionally well. He has no current plans to change the specification. [ECU model and several OCR words unclear.]
- Unknown manufacturer; EP71 brake pads. Rear: GAB eight-way adjustable dampers; springs of unknown make (5 kg/mm). [Some component wording unclear.]
- Front: TRD
- EP71 …, modified in-house. [Component name unclear.]
- Suspension & brakes
- AE111 ECU / TRD clutch / LSD
- Homemade muffler
- Silk Road springs (8 kg/mm). [OCR partly unclear.]

- At the award ceremony, Iwai said, “It's 20 percent happiness and 80 percent relief.” In the end, it confirmed that the featured “promising newcomer” was impressive after all. But behind that result lay a battle against pressure that only someone featured so prominently in a magazine would understand.
- As a 1983 model, its body shows wear appropriate to its age. In particular, he felt a lack of rigidity around the rear hatch and addressed it with additional spot welds. It has no strut tower bars or similar braces. [Opening OCR wording partly unclear.]
- He isn't particular about tires. The modest tire specification shows that grip can be sufficient for his needs. With little money to spare, he uses inexpensive tires. [Several source words and the tire choice/comparison are badly damaged; full source review needed.]
- No particular tire preference!
- [Unclear: isolated sentence fragment.]

- [Unclear: isolated logo character.]
- Extra spot welds combat body fatigue!
- Engine/drivetrain: overhauled AE101 4A-G swap; HCR32 factory fuel pump; AE86 stainless exhaust header; homemade muffler; CE100 factory muffler; Earl’s 15-row oil cooler; AE111 ECU; TRD clutch and LSD.
- Front: TRD dampers, modified into short EP71 units; Silk Road 8 kg/mm springs; unknown-brand EP71 brake pads. Rear: GAB eight-position adjustable dampers and unknown-brand 5 kg/mm springs. Modified tie rods and steering-angle-increasing washers.
- AAR full bucket seat; Sparco steering wheel; Omori oil-temperature/oil-pressure gauges; personal radio; additional spot welds throughout; adapted Opel Vita canards; TRD rear spoiler; Vitaloni mirrors.
- Front: DNA GP 165/60-13 tires; SSR Mark II 7J×13, zero offset, with 5 mm spacers. Rear: Potenza G II 155/65-13 tires; SSR Mark II 7J×13, zero offset.
- Overcoming the pressure for a complete victory!
