- …he had certainly won the judges over. Just look at it! It looks ready for a rally or dirt trial, right? We wondered if it was a club car, but it turned out to be his own. His father originally built it for rally competition, then passed it on to him. The competition equipment still fitted is the real thing. To meet the regulations, power-related parts are almost entirely stock; only the air cleaner has been changed. Very simple! But it is the top RS grade, with 170 horsepower, so he seems happy with its power. Following his father’s example, Takei competes in the front-wheel-drive dirt-trial class at Sportsland Shinshu. At a recent event he placed 11th out of 22 cars—a respectable result for a beginner, suggesting promise in that field too. “Dirt trials are fun, but I really love drifting! People who do serious competition sometimes look down on drifting, but they don’t know…”
- “…how much fun drifting is,” says Takei. He is enthusiastic about street driving too: apparently he goes drifting on his home mountain road 15 days a month! Keep that energy up and keep driving!
- The air cleaner has a Rojack suction box. Although it is not an exposed type, its intake performance and dust protection make it popular with rally drivers.
- This really is handy!
- The engine…
- Front and rear suspension uses ブリッグ Type Rally components,a respected name in racing. Its stock-style shape does not lower the car,but he has no complaints for drifting. The brake hoses are braided, and the pads are metal pads from Rally Brake Service. A proper rally-car setup—nice!
- The KYB scissors jack is mounted with a dedicated bracket so it can be removed and refitted easily. This sort of competition-car ingenuity is worth copying.
- The air cleaner is the only power modification; even the muffler is stock. The drivetrain has been strengthened properly, with a Cusco clutch and LSD. The Mirage RS produces 170 horsepower and weighs 1,010 kg, so you can tell it is pretty quick!
- Light tuning is the basic approach!
- The spartan interior has extra spot welds at key points and a seven-point roll bar passing through the dashboard. The driver’s seat is a Bride Zeta.

- That day,the front had 6J Enkei wheels with 175-size Advan A032R tires. “Since I pivot around the front,S tires make things easier!”says Takei. The rear used unidentified wheels and tires.
- A rally computer remains fitted in front of the passenger seat, as part of the rally setup. It displays elapsed time and distance accurately at a glance, and he sometimes uses it when driving [location unclear]. (But when drifting… [sentence continues].)
- …the accumulated distance does not come out accurately. [OCR fragment.]
- …that was the combination.
- The drive layout does not matter!

- A 19-year-old student at Takayama Junior College. His team name is [damaged OCR: “ちよ一つは5レ一グw★あ艦隊”]. He is a front-wheel-drive drifter who mainly drives on the street. He has been doing it for [duration unclear], but reportedly has the basic techniques mastered. He already has a job offer and plans to join an automaker known for rallying next year.
