According to Mr. Kazama, owner of Kazama Auto Service in Saitama, which handles everything from finding a base car to tuning it, Hachiroku prices have been falling lately. That makes this a good time to buy. With popularity easing, excellent one-owner, unmodified cars that used to be kept hidden by dealers are now reaching auctions. Cars enthusiasts want may still cost around one million yen at a dealer, but finding one now feels like a dream. In practice, a running Hachiroku with suspension and a differential already fitted can be found for roughly 450,000–500,000 yen. ‘Cars you can drive right away for under 500,000 yen are popular. The engine usually isn't completely worn out, so it is perfectly usable. Given the car's age, though, you should be prepared to repaint the body yourself if you are not happy with it.’
