It is apparently used for something like that. Then you just wait for the plate to be made—about a week to ten days. They could not tell us the details yet, but announcements may begin around March. You only choose a plate number when you first get a car. It is a one-time opportunity. If you already own a car, it seems you cannot change it unless you move and register a new plate.

3.

I didn't know you would be able to choose a plate number, but that's great. If you can choose, that's much better. Until now they assigned one automatically, so I never paid attention and don't even remember my car's number. But when you see an unusual plate in town, you notice it. If it were me, I'd choose repeating digits...

6.

...that's it!

2.

Yasuhiro Akiyama...

7.

Or I might use my own name instead of a number. My name is Yasuhiro, so something like 8316. Only people who know me would understand. That would be cool! I'll do that with my next car.

From application to receiving the plate takes about one week to ten days.

Then, if it is not one of those 26 combinations...

15.

First, fill out the application form. The details have not been announced yet, but...

12.

...you write down the number you want.

16.

When submitting the form, pay the fee at the same time. This covers the cost of making the plate...

19.

I think the preferred-number system is a good idea. I saw it in a magazine, so I had known about it for a while and was interested. I never cared about license plates before, but now I do. It may not go as far as tuning, but I think it can be a useful little customization. For myself, I would probably choose my car's model...

26.

Sota Ohno.

27.

That's why the system is likely to attract a lot of attention. If you're thinking of buying a car now, waiting until May might be a good idea. You could choose a number based on your name or your car's model code. It should help you stand out!

29.

Here's how the procedure works!

28.

I'd like a number based on my model code. It would be even better if we could choose the kana as well as the numbers!

32.

The car...

31.

It should be ready in about...

After one week to ten days.
