About this issue

The August 1999 issue of Young Version explores drift setups versus grip tuning through 22 shop demo cars, including S15 Silvias from Mine’s and Kazama Auto. Features cover front-wheel-drive builds taking on high-powered 4WD rivals, choosing a first drift car, and reviving a used AE86 Trueno on a ¥1 million total budget. Suspension fundamentals, engine-oil selection, rotary maintenance, new-parts tests, and reports from Hiroshima and California round out this look at Japan’s late-1990s tuning scene.

242 available scans from Young Version — August 1999, in right-to-left reading order. Japanese OCR and English translation drafts are available throughout. Drafts have not received exhaustive image proofreading; unreadable source remains recorded in the archival data.

The color temperature reaches 3,800 K, close to sunlight. Among headlight bulbs, Euro White Max meets strict European standards, which are more demanding than Japanese standards about variation in light output. That means this bulb is highly reliable. Its 3,800 K color temperature means lower values look redder and higher values look bluish-white. Daylight color temperature varies by season…

22.

…but is about 5,000 K; a standard bulb is around 3,200 K. The more bluish-white the light, the brighter it appears to the human eye, so you can imagine how noticeable Euro White will be! Let’s replace it and compare it with the factory bulb. Wow, it’s bright! No wonder: its brightness is in the 120/100 W class, about twice the standard bulb, while power consumption stays at 60/50 W. The color is whiter than expected, making the stock bulb look brownish. It also includes a position lamp, so replacing that should make things twice as bright—or so the ad says!

This headlight bulb meets strict European standards. Its white light has a 3,800 K color temperature, close to sunlight, and it delivers brightness comparable to a 120/100 W-class bulb while drawing the standard 60/55 W (H4). Available in four types: H1, H3, H4, and H7. (OCR on wattage/lineup is noisy.)

A white position lamp is included with the headlight bulb set. It feels like a fresh change; we replaced this one too.
