The name Rough World is practically synonymous with the AE86, and these two cars have a distinctive character of their own.
First, the Levin belonging to Takahiro Kawanabe, on the right: he happened to find this car for a low price after his Sunny 310—
At a glance, this AE86 looks extensively modified. We couldn’t get many details about its setup, but it would be no surprise if nearly everything under the hood had been worked on. The Levin belonging to Hideaki Kawanabe beside it is also carbureted,
The engine has a high-lift cam, and it also uses plenty of stainless-mesh hose, showing attention to durability—
which shows the care taken with it.
The front bumper shared by both cars is a Rough—
Rough’s original parts. It’s impressive that the team even makes its own aero parts.

The second car!? Its owner is proud of the navigation system
▼ The driver has a full bucket seat; the passenger seat is also a Bride bucket seat—
Mr. Takaya also appeared in the November 1996 issue. His pearl-painted S14 reportedly had an engine failure, so this time he entered his four-door R33 as his second car.
His pride and joy is the navigation system—and the person beside him, too…
and he is proud of it, too.
