A grown-up sport compact with a premium feel inside and out. Because no bolt-on gullwing kit is available for the FTO overseas, the owner commissioned a one-off from KAN Project. For ¥336,000 including labor, she got gullwing doors that open easily and make a statement. The door-handle and mirror openings have been smoothed, and the door trim is upholstered in white leather, so it looks great open or closed. The restrained exterior details include a modified production aero kit and nearly ¥1 million in interior work. Its very low air suspension, carbon bonnet, and trunk add to the polished finish.

A carbon-weave bonnet is paired with a PT Cruiser-style nose bra. The nose bra is used especially well here, and the aero mirrors look great, too.
The interior is unified in white leather, including the Recaro SP-JJ seats. Combined with black trim, it feels upscale. It even has a Mercedes-style push-button ignition.
A KAZE rear bumper and VeilSide spoiler combine with a one-off dual-exit muffler for a powerful rear view.

The trunk lid has been replaced with a carbon-weave panel, and the exterior is coordinated in white and black. Euro-style rear fog lamps add an accent; the muffler is a one-off dual-exit design.

KAZE front spoiler and fenders give it a distinct look. The interior is coordinated in black and red—beauty and the beast!
“KAN Project made the one-off gullwings. They’re a little heavy to close while seated, but I’m very happy with them,” says Junko.
A pink body with butterfly-style gullwing doors
It looks cute, but inside it’s a beast, powered by nitrous. “It feels so good that I just want to hit the NOS button…”
KAN Project · Tel. 078-947-2361 · Popular with FTO owners, the KAN gullwing system uses a vehicle-specific hinge layout so the doors open and close smoothly.

Five NOS tanks are mounted behind the rear seats. The car is refilled about once a month—is the driving as hot as the setup?

These butterfly-style gullwing doors open only a little and rise almost vertically. The reported price is ¥1.2–1.5 million.

The red body is set off by Euro-style taillights. The front and rear bumpers and side skirts come from different brands, yet work together beautifully. The one-off muffler completes the look.
A Greddy grille has been modified from a Silvia part. The interior uses white metal finish; the front speakers are Polk Audio and MOMO.

Electric motor “power gullwing” system installed
Two HIRO spoilers, large and small, are combined. The dual-exit muffler is by AiRii.
Racing Hart Type CR 18-inch wheels pair gold spokes with the red body for a beautiful contrast.
The owner says she is very happy with the gullwing system. Even if it fails…
…the electric motors keep the doors from dropping. Open the doors by hand, then raise or lower them with the remote or a switch on the center console. Each movement takes about ten seconds.
SPECIFICATIONS — Exterior: VeilSide side/rear aero; HIRO spoiler. Suspension: RS-R lowering springs. Wheels: Volk Racing GT-C, 18-inch. Engine: carbon engine cover and radiator cover, etc. Built by AiRii · Tel. 0729-57-3131.

CAR
Because the FTO doors are heavy, two dampers are used for added rigidity. The electric drive motor is tucked inside the fender.
