With money tight, there’s a trend toward budget tuning, so more people are putting in the effort and taking on advanced technical projects. There are still plenty of wonderfully homemade creations and bizarre builds nobody else would copy—that’s what makes Gakudori unique! Every year someone does one of those familiar ‘you see this every year’ ideas; maybe some modifications have become tradition. It could be fun to compare them with past articles!

The spirit of modification
Riveted universal overfenders give it 5.5 cm more width per side at the front and 6 cm at the rear. Front camber is about −10 degrees.
The exhaust manifold keeps cracking and holes keep appearing in the muffler, so keeping it slammed is tough—but I can’t quit! My details are a Tenpachi bumper with an R lip and deep-dish Longchamps. I heard the three-piece rear spoiler from Budou no Ki was the last one, so I’m going to take good care of it!

The headlights are partly homemade fixed units, with Raybrig lamps—not the thin type. The cut line on the pop-up headlight covers looks aggressive, too!
I got the last one of the rear spoilers!

The wheels are 15-inch Longchamps with negative offset front and rear: 9.5J front and 10J rear, stretched tires in 195/50 size. The rear glass is painted from the inside rather than covered with film. It’s also refreshingly clean without stickers on the body.
OPTION
The engine uses an S15 turbo setup. The door areas have extra spot welds, and an 8-point roll cage has also been installed.
Comment
It’s been built with attention to more than just appearance. And overfenders really suit the 180SX!
It looks fresh and great!
A subtle Z33 parts swap!
to make it work
so it works electrically

…doesn’t work!
The factory rear spoiler isn’t so bad after all…
I wired it so it works!

The trunk has a homemade grinder-tattoo finish! Instead of simply giving it a candy-paint finish, I sprayed a solid color in a gradient around the edge of the trunk so it blends into the body. Can you see it? The rear spoiler is a modified factory piece.
You’d never guess that wing was factory!

I liked their shape, so I fitted Z33 mirrors to my S15. I redrilled the mounting holes and fixed them in place. I connected the wiring with bullet connectors, so they still fold electrically! They don’t look out of place, do they?
The high-mounted rear spoiler was removed…
Comment
…the mounts were filled with body filler and it was converted to a two-pillar design. The wing ends were reshaped with sharper edges and mounted right at the rear edge of the trunk. It looks so cool you’d never think it was factory!
They seem to be a little larger than the factory S15 mirrors, so visibility is excellent.
