Lexus IS [GSE20], Shiro Deura, 460 POWER with ENDLESS. Even among D1GP competitors, a current-generation four-door is rare! Then again, the IS became the previous model this year, didn’t it? Kazama’s car is based on an IS250 with a 2JZ engine and a stunning one-off body. Onishi drove it in 2011, and Deura drives it this year. As for the results… let’s not go there.

What a highly adaptable car! Crew [HK30], Katsuyoshi Imai, Ranran. The Crew was expected to become a post-classic favorite, but it has not been very popular. This was its first time at Nikko Circuit. It has an SR20DET engine swap. The 15-inch SSR Mesh wheels look great. Is that a high-end intercooler? See how the tubes between the fins are triangular? Someone once bragged that cheap ones are flat…

39.

Four-wheel drive converted to rear-wheel drive! Impreza [GC8], Shohei Harada. It is a full rear-wheel-drive conversion. He had not been to a track day in a year, but the car made a strong impression! It has a matte-black body and bolt-on rear overfenders; the front wheels are original BCNR33 wheels! It hardly looks like an Impreza. Gunma has plenty of intimidating cars converted from 4WD to RWD.

Targeting rare models!

10.

The paddock photos probably gave you a good idea of the cars, so here we use our signature ‘Sliding Shots!’ format to feature the rare four-door models that appeared only once. Drift Heaven’s basic approach is to give the minority models plenty of love!

9.

An entry from Kyushu! Laurel [C35], Masaaki Keda, CHAKY with WA-POWER. The C35 itself may not be rare, but the driver is! He came all the way from Fukuoka. It resembles Haruyama’s car at Wonder. The rear lower arms seem to be for a different model, but with gusseted fittings everything works fine!

Bolt-on turbo for explosive speed! Altezza [SXE10], Toshihiro Suzuki. Flying sideways through Turn 6! It has a lot of steering angle—and a turbo too! The car was spotless and had a huge turbine. The one-off piping was beautifully done, though it was a shame the rear tires sat so far inside the body.
