An FF Showa-era car recorded 297.3 km/h: HRF Hokuetsu EP82 Starlet V300.
This is HRF Hokuetsu’s EP82, featured in the March 1999 issue of Option. It recorded an astonishing 297 km/h—not only for a front-wheel-drive Showa car, but for a front-wheel-drive car of any kind. Its 1.5-liter stroker engine is fitted with an HKS GT2835R turbo and makes 400 PS. That is how far you can take a front-wheel-drive Showa-era car!
