All of these 4A-GZE engines are basically from transverse-mounted 4A-G families. As with a 20-valve engine swap, you must solve the distributor interference and the reversed surge-tank orientation. The distributor is relocated with a wasted-spark ignition kit. For the intake manifold, builders may use a commercially available reversal kit or cut the surge tank and weld it back on facing the opposite direction. It is also necessary to replace the standard 4A-GZE intercooler with a front-mount unit.

For an easy power increase, bolt-on parts and swaps are the way to go!

The strongest 4A-GZE: an AE101 swap making 170 PS!

8.

For forced-induction tuning on an AE86, one option is a bolt-on supercharger; another is the 4A-GZE, which comes with a supercharger. The 4A-GZE was fitted to the AE92 and AE101, as well as the AW11…

There is no kit for the front-mount intercooler. On this car, a suitably sized HKS core is paired with custom one-off piping…

…and pairs them together.

The distributor arrangement is the key. If you cut the bulkhead to leave the distributor in place, the heater can no longer be used…

…ends up that way!

15.

At one time, 4A-G swaps were a popular choice for drift AE86s. With enough power, you can keep the car moving through the course…

16.

A supercharger can raise power by increasing boost, just like a turbo. Because it is driven by a pulley, changing the pulley size increases the supercharger's speed and raises boost.

18.

…that is how it is.

17.

This car raises boost that way. It also uses HKS 304°/264° high-lift cams and a homemade front-mount intercooler built around an HKS core. Since the engine is rated at 170 PS, its potential is impressive!
