The owner of this Hachiroku races in Sunday events organized by Kashu Motors. Apparently, a 4A-GZE swap can also work when chasing grip-driving lap times. This car uses the version from the AW11—the first-generation MR2—which is basically the same as the AE92 4A-GZE. It has TRD 272° high-lift cams on both intake and exhaust. Boost is raised to 1.0 bar using larger Cusco pulleys on both the crank and compressor sides…
With a TD05-16G boosting to 1.0 bar, output reaches a remarkable 220 PS! At that outrageous level, stories of wheelspin in third gear are no exaggeration. For a turbo conversion, the 4A-GZE is a good base engine: its bottom end is sturdier than the naturally aspirated 4A-G. The turbo installation requires custom exhaust manifolds and piping, and fuel tuning must also be addressed, but those are not especially difficult problems to solve…
Fuel control is the crucial part of forced-induction tuning. Even the supercharged 4A-GZE has limited injector capacity. With an engine family such as Nissan's SR, which came in both naturally aspirated and turbo versions, it may be possible to use injectors from the turbo model in a bolt-on conversion. That option is not available for the 4A-G, so the usual solution is to add supplementary injectors to provide the fuel that is missing.

As befits a circuit car, it also has a lightweight flywheel to recover some of the throttle response lost with the supercharger.

It is fitted with Kashu's original ‘Nikko SPL’ coilovers, along with a full set of familiar suspension components, all carefully dialed in.
Bolt-on turbo available! Full power from a TD05-16G!

People who love the distinctive feel of a naturally aspirated mechanical tune may say this kind of power delivery is clearly ‘cheating’—but it has a devilishly appealing charm.
…and fuel-control issues, but those are not especially difficult to resolve. So how would you use this devilish power?
The key to forced-induction tuning!
Based on a 4A-GZE, the setup lowers compression with a thicker head gasket. Fuel is supplied by one additional 550 cc injector, controlled by a Rebic unit.
