Much better stability.

Still on radial tires...
Breaking into the 1:05 range!
Major operation.

Drift...
The front tires also felt planted, not just the rear. Orido says that adding a rear spoiler should make the car even more stable through high-speed corners on a circuit.

Front
At the front, we only changed the springs from 8 to 10 kg/mm. The shock damping remained at the baseline setting, one step softer...
Rear
At the rear, we also revised the damping as well as the springs. We softened rebound and compression to help the tires stay planted.
Now for a full-throttle circuit attack! Wow, the car is much easier to drive than before. The front-to-rear balance is good, and stability through turns has improved greatly. The lap time was 1:05.94. With radial tires (RE71...), this is probably close to the limit. Even with more power, it would be hard to use the throttle without traction...
...on the circuit...
Next...
Until now, we had only tuned the turbo and cam on the YV car, without touching the engine internals. We normally run about 1.3 kg/cm² of boost, and have had no problems so far, including on the circuit. This shows how far an SR engine can go even with a stock long block.
...because it would be uncomfortable and not much fun to drive. With S tires, a 1:04 or even 1:03 might be possible, but at that level in a Silvia, it honestly stops being enjoyable. If you want to enjoy driving, I think this balance is best. It is easy to use the power for high-speed drifting, not just grip. For now, this setup...
Rather than tuning the engine itself...
Next time, we'll aim for 2.20 seconds with A'PEXi's secret weapon!
The S14 N1 Damper full kit, including pillow-ball upper mounts, costs ¥238,000.
Starting next issue, we move into the next stage of the project. A'PEXi will release a 2.2-liter kit for the SR engine—pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft—to increase displacement. Finally, we'll install a turbo one size larger and take on the quarter-mile!
Changing the setup was the right decision. When a turbo swap increases power, the suspension has to match it. This is a good example of that. (Manabu Orido)
Only the rear shocks are full-length adjustable, so ride height and preload can be changed separately.
