About this issue

The August 1999 issue of Young Version explores drift setups versus grip tuning through 22 shop demo cars, including S15 Silvias from Mine’s and Kazama Auto. Features cover front-wheel-drive builds taking on high-powered 4WD rivals, choosing a first drift car, and reviving a used AE86 Trueno on a ¥1 million total budget. Suspension fundamentals, engine-oil selection, rotary maintenance, new-parts tests, and reports from Hiroshima and California round out this look at Japan’s late-1990s tuning scene.

242 available scans from Young Version — August 1999, in right-to-left reading order. Japanese OCR and English translation drafts are available throughout. Drafts have not received exhaustive image proofreading; unreadable source remains recorded in the archival data.

This is my second Laurel. Before that I had a Hachiroku and a Cefiro—always drift cars. I go to the circuit once a month and the mountain roads once a week. The SR was installed only yesterday. It is much easier to drive than the RB, and I've fitted a proper tubular manifold. I've always wanted that sound! Next, I'll increase boost and aim for even faster drifting.

but I couldn't give up the Cefiro's looks, so I chose this one. I use clutch kicks, the handbrake—everything. The LSD essential for drifting is a mechanical type. It used to have a viscous diff, but this one makes drifting easier. It is reasonably easy to drive as it is, but I feel it lacks low-end power, especially below 5,000 rpm. I want a little more power there.

Easy to drive, but short of low-end power… so I want to fit a turbo!

An engine swap is planned because it lacks power. At present it is completely stock and untouched. The cockpit, which is , has a Nardi wheel and a full bucket seat.
