About this issue

The August 1999 issue of Young Version explores drift setups versus grip tuning through 22 shop demo cars, including S15 Silvias from Mine’s and Kazama Auto. Features cover front-wheel-drive builds taking on high-powered 4WD rivals, choosing a first drift car, and reviving a used AE86 Trueno on a ¥1 million total budget. Suspension fundamentals, engine-oil selection, rotary maintenance, new-parts tests, and reports from Hiroshima and California round out this look at Japan’s late-1990s tuning scene.

242 available scans from Young Version — August 1999, in right-to-left reading order. Japanese OCR and English translation drafts are available throughout. Drafts have not received exhaustive image proofreading; unreadable source remains recorded in the archival data.

though it originally had front-end and engine damage. If I had the money, I'd really like to repaint it. Another point is that when converting it from automatic to manual, reconnecting the reversing lights was a hassle, so they don't light up when reverse is selected. I fitted a manual switch instead! It came from something else, so the lettering is…

Basically this isn't a car suited to drifting: it's heavy and lacks power. This one has a T04E turbo at 1.1 kg/cm², with balanced pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft, for 320 ps in total. Making it unnecessarily wide made its behavior peaky. Adding front and rear anti-roll bars transformed it so it no longer behaved like an 81! Body reinforcement changes this car a great deal.
