About this issue

The August 1999 issue of Young Version explores drift setups versus grip tuning through 22 shop demo cars, including S15 Silvias from Mine’s and Kazama Auto. Features cover front-wheel-drive builds taking on high-powered 4WD rivals, choosing a first drift car, and reviving a used AE86 Trueno on a ¥1 million total budget. Suspension fundamentals, engine-oil selection, rotary maintenance, new-parts tests, and reports from Hiroshima and California round out this look at Japan’s late-1990s tuning scene.

242 available scans from Young Version — August 1999, in right-to-left reading order. Japanese OCR and English translation drafts are available throughout. Drafts have not received exhaustive image proofreading; unreadable source remains recorded in the archival data.

tuning it in one go! Before that I'd just increased boost. Now it has a GT3037S at 1.2 kg/cm² and around 420 ps. My Tsukuba time was 1:06.4, but today it was no good: the suspension couldn't cope with the power. Next I want Hyper Dampers to gain more traction. The straight-line acceleration is fantastic, though—it feels as if the car has become much lighter.

commuting, with occasional quarter-mile runs, but lately I've become hooked on circuits! Quarter-mile starts were hard on the clutch. It has an original high-flow turbo, Trust front-mounted intercooler, J-Speed computer, and other parts, making 283 ps at 1.0 kg/cm². That is plenty for circuit driving. I've also reduced weight; now I just need to drive and gain experience!
