Racing games really get you fired up. Even some of us in the editorial office got hooked on Daytona USA for a while. The speed made it feel like a high-speed battle, and the graphics looked so realistic that it was easy to pour in a lot of money… Now the team behind Daytona USA has created an even more exciting new game, “Scud Race.” It may already be in arcades. The game comes from AM2, the well-known team behind the Virtua Fighter series and Virtua Racing—enough to make arcade fans want to play it immediately. For anyone who hasn’t tried it yet, here are the basics: there are four cars to choose from—a Ferrari F40, McLaren F1, Porsche 911 GT2, and Chrysler Viper—and four courses: two beginner, one intermediate, and one advanced…
Of course, Scud Race also lets you switch among four camera views. The seat is a motion type, a new feature not found in Daytona USA. I tried it, and from the starting grid the seat and steering wheel vibrate… It really feels as if they’ve recreated the handling of a real car. The steering is surprisingly heavy after the start, like a sports car’s steering. It may feel strange at first, but once you get used to it, you can really charge ahead, pass your rivals, and aim for victory! I hope… Oh, and you can drift in this game, too. If you get it wrong, you spin out, naturally, but I found the drifting fairly easy to control. I can see myself feeding more and more money into this machine. Should I be happy or worried? Anyway, if you stop by an arcade, definitely give this recommended game a try!

Alpine skiing—aim for the top of the world
Sega Enterprises’ new-game presentation included many more titles. One looked especially interesting, so I’ll introduce it here, too. It’s an immersive ski game called—quite literally—“Sega Super G…”
It’s a motion game. As you can see in the photo, stand on the ski-board controller and shift your weight left and right to aim for the top of the world.

Feel the game as if you were inside it
▲This mode shows your own car on screen. I found this view easier because it made the car’s condition easier to read. There are two other camera views, so choose whichever works best for you. By the way, is this Rome?
