For example, with the current 2.5-liter turbo Soarer, the manual ran the quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds, while the automatic did it in 14.38 seconds—a difference of only 0.27 seconds! Trap speed was also nearly equal at 157 km/h. This is apparently thanks to the automatic's efficiency and finely tuned electronic shift programming. That gives you plenty of reason to tune one!
To tune an automatic, start with the ATF. What about the strongest automatic builds from famous mechanics and shops? There are highly individual cars here: machines producing 650 PS and 320 km/h, a somewhat wild car with NOS, and cars carefully styled with aero and color. In tuning circles, everyone talks about manuals, but we hope this shows that automatics can be impressive too. There are serious options such as reinforced AT kits, but a simple and surprisingly effective step is to switch to sport ATF. Even that change can apparently help the transmission withstand considerable power. Give it a try. ATF heats up easily and deteriorates quickly, so remember to change it regularly. There are many AT-specific parts beyond the ones shown here. If you're thinking, 'I'll tune an automatic and build a unique machine like these,' take this opportunity to try it!

A31 Cefiro—after all, it's a four-door FR car.
I used to drive a tuned manual car for a while, but I really like the automatic's seamless acceleration. You can drift, too—once you learn when to downshift, it is easy even without a manual transmission!

The Eclipse is great, too!
I mostly enjoy cruising quickly on the highway, so it doesn't matter whether the car is automatic or manual. In fact, without clutch operation, this is easier. Even when I cruise through the mountain roads, I can focus on driving, so I'm fast.
