About this issue

The August 1999 issue of Young Version explores drift setups versus grip tuning through 22 shop demo cars, including S15 Silvias from Mine’s and Kazama Auto. Features cover front-wheel-drive builds taking on high-powered 4WD rivals, choosing a first drift car, and reviving a used AE86 Trueno on a ¥1 million total budget. Suspension fundamentals, engine-oil selection, rotary maintenance, new-parts tests, and reports from Hiroshima and California round out this look at Japan’s late-1990s tuning scene.

This circuit-spec Yume Kobo FD3S has recorded over 450 . It recently received Mazda Speed’s new A-Spec front bumper. The body was repainted in Rock Paint, whose color shifts mysteriously with the light. Inside, only the driver’s seat remains; the side and rear windows have been replaced with acrylic to reduce weight. It could lap Tsukuba at astonishing speed, but this FD3S is fully road-legal and can be driven on the street, too. .

9.

The car remains street-legal. The engine has only been modified with side-port work and a bolt-on Trust T78 turbo kit—nothing extraordinary. It makes 450+ . The suspension uses an original coilover setup based on S… with revised stroke and damping. It feels good and remains stable at the circuit’s limits. The engine has abundant midrange torque and excellent high-rpm pull. With over 450, rough throttle inputs can make it twitchy, but smooth driving is no problem. Achieving this with readily available parts shows the high level of tuning. [Draft].
