About this issue

The August 1999 issue of Young Version explores drift setups versus grip tuning through 22 shop demo cars, including S15 Silvias from Mine’s and Kazama Auto. Features cover front-wheel-drive builds taking on high-powered 4WD rivals, choosing a first drift car, and reviving a used AE86 Trueno on a ¥1 million total budget. Suspension fundamentals, engine-oil selection, rotary maintenance, new-parts tests, and reports from Hiroshima and California round out this look at Japan’s late-1990s tuning scene.

Packed with Le Mans know-how. Mr. Le Mans, racer Yojiro Terada, leads this tuning factory. This car, called AutoExe FD0, is built around three pillars: authentic aero developed through Le Mans racing, a powerful engine, and a supple, stable suspension. The powertrain uses an original turbo kit along with RE Amemiya’s Redom Mini, front pipe, and intercooler kit. The exhaust pairs a Racing Beat muffler with a sports catalytic converter, producing over 400 . Above about 4,000 rpm, power surges and climbs rapidly to redline, making you want to keep revving. The suspension favors stability, with gradual body roll and ample traction. It seems better to drive smoothly and precisely than to throw it around. This Seven has a composed, mature character. From the Greiff lineup, here is an FD3S with side-port work. It uses a T88 turbo and makes 490 [likely PS] at 1 kg/cm² boost, in a street setup. The exterior is a full RE Amemiya package, including a light kit and aero; the design shows the experience of this long-established shop. .
