About this issue
The August 1999 issue of Young Version explores drift setups versus grip tuning through 22 shop demo cars, including S15 Silvias from Mine’s and Kazama Auto. Features cover front-wheel-drive builds taking on high-powered 4WD rivals, choosing a first drift car, and reviving a used AE86 Trueno on a ¥1 million total budget. Suspension fundamentals, engine-oil selection, rotary maintenance, new-parts tests, and reports from Hiroshima and California round out this look at Japan’s late-1990s tuning scene.
242 available scans from Young Version — August 1999, in right-to-left reading order. Japanese OCR and English translation drafts are available throughout. Drafts have not received exhaustive image proofreading; unreadable source remains recorded in the archival data.

The other event we covered this time… [sentence fragment]
The event called Import Show Off is a popular car show known to every American enthusiast. It features not only tuned cars but also DJs, famous rappers, and energetic dancers—more like a huge festival.

Held together with a beach festival, the event mainly features cars built to show off. This year, headlight and taillight swap conversions really stood out!
That event is Hot Import Days. It grew out of the hugely popular nighttime car show Hot Import Nights. The organizers thought, “Why not hold one during the day, too?” This is the daytime version.
Awards are given in different categories, and winning one can make you famous. To enter the venue, visitors pass through metal detectors and have their bags searched—another distinctly American touch!

Integra front!
The previous-generation Prelude has been fitted with a Japanese-spec Integra front end. Its tail lamps are from the Altezza pictured at left!
It looks like an ordinary Integra in Japan, but in North America even the current Integra Type R has four headlights! That’s a swap conversion!
A coveted GT-R taillight swap! The base is a BB-series Prelude, and the rear wing is impressive, too.
Astonishingly, the taillights from an 80-series Supra have been swapped onto a current Integra! The DC Integra is incredibly popular.
