About this issue
The August 1999 issue of Young Version explores drift setups versus grip tuning through 22 shop demo cars, including S15 Silvias from Mine’s and Kazama Auto. Features cover front-wheel-drive builds taking on high-powered 4WD rivals, choosing a first drift car, and reviving a used AE86 Trueno on a ¥1 million total budget. Suspension fundamentals, engine-oil selection, rotary maintenance, new-parts tests, and reports from Hiroshima and California round out this look at Japan’s late-1990s tuning scene.
242 available scans from Young Version — August 1999, in right-to-left reading order. Japanese OCR and English translation drafts are available throughout. Drafts have not received exhaustive image proofreading; unreadable source remains recorded in the archival data.

It's an 180SX, bought new and driven for four years. The suspension is tuned with Hyper Dampers, while the intake and exhaust use the Super Power Flow and Hyper Muffler 25th Anniversary models. Her favorite parts are the 256-degree intake and exhaust cams—both from HKS, of course. She says installing these cams made the car pull forward strongly, and she enjoys that feel.
But it seems not everything is fun. For example, just before the Tokyo Auto Salon and before a new issue of Goods Master goes on sale, work gets incredibly busy. The hours are irregular because of the job... As for Michie-chan's days off, she goes to a nearby circuit with people from work. She does grip driving, but is currently practicing drifting. She and friends who also work at HKS formed a girls' team called HOT. The members are Masayo Sugimoto, who drives an MR2, and Mami Sano, who also drives an 180SX. Finally, a message to readers: “It's getting hot, so you need to prevent your car from overheating. But if you install HKS intercooler, oil cooler, and metal parts, you'll be all set!”
