About this issue

The August 1999 issue of Young Version explores drift setups versus grip tuning through 22 shop demo cars, including S15 Silvias from Mine’s and Kazama Auto. Features cover front-wheel-drive builds taking on high-powered 4WD rivals, choosing a first drift car, and reviving a used AE86 Trueno on a ¥1 million total budget. Suspension fundamentals, engine-oil selection, rotary maintenance, new-parts tests, and reports from Hiroshima and California round out this look at Japan’s late-1990s tuning scene.

242 available scans from Young Version — August 1999, in right-to-left reading order. Japanese OCR and English translation drafts are available throughout. Drafts have not received exhaustive image proofreading; unreadable source remains recorded in the archival data.

I was torn between them, but chose the S13 for its styling. Besides commuting, I drift it and visit circuits about once a month. I like having lap times as tangible results! I'm setting up Kashu Jidosha prototype coilovers with front 12 kg and rear 11 kg springs. Once developed, it should do 43 seconds at Nikko Circuit on S-tires. The original Yashio exhaust is another highlight!

the key part is the Yashio tubular manifold!

I really couldn't decide whether to buy an S14 or S13,

A Yashio Factory original GT wing sits firmly on the trunk. With that wing and body color, this car certainly stands out!

The cockpit has a steering wheel and full bucket seat of unknown make. It is neat and very clean.

39.

Unlike the front of the cockpit, the rear is stripped of seats and has a roll cage, giving it a Spartan appearance. The 5Zigen Rocket exhaust has been rather forcefully routed to the left; its sound is good too.

I've driven mountain roads for about two years, but

today was my first circuit drive, and it ended before I knew what was happening. Unlike mountain roads, you can drive openly and safely, so I think I'll get hooked! It has TEIN H1 suspension with front 12 kg and rear 10 kg springs, and Project μ front pads. Before my next visit, I definitely want an LSD, clutch, and flywheel!
